What the intangibility update actually changed
Grinding Gear Games added the ability to search and filter intangibility on items on trade in patch 3.29.2. This is a discovery and comparison tool. You can use the current trade interface to narrow listings by the property instead of relying on seller text or manually opening every item. The note does not describe any change to the underlying crafting outcome.
Keep those two tasks separate. Trade filtering answers “which listed items match this property?” Crafting answers “what does this action do to this exact item?” The first cannot prove the second. A listing that appears under an intangibility filter is not evidence that a Ducat or currency will work on it, preserve it, reduce it, or produce a specific modifier.
Check explicit official restrictions first
Patch 3.29.2 supplies a concrete example of why item-level checks matter: Ukatoa’s Ducat does not function on Amulets that already have an Eldritch implicit. The patch also records fixes for Genteel’s Ducat on Elevated attribute modifiers and on attribute affixes for large and medium Cluster Jewels, while stating that small Cluster Jewels still required a later fix at that time.
These are named restrictions and fixes, not permission to generalize. They do not show that every other base is valid, that every current bug is fixed, or that intangibility behaves identically across Ducats. Read the current tooltip, confirm the base type and existing implicits or affixes, and stop when the intended interaction is not explicitly supported.
Use a reversible verification workflow
This is a risk-limiting procedure, not a reproducible mechanic result supplied by this site. It reduces the cost of discovering that a tooltip, restriction, or cost has changed. It cannot make a random outcome deterministic, reverse a consumed currency, or guarantee that a superficially similar item behaves the same way.
- Save the item’s current tooltip or screenshot, including intangibility and all visible modifiers.
- Record the exact currency or Ducat, Sulphur balance, and interface eligibility message.
- Test the interaction on a low-value comparable item before using an irreplaceable base.
- Compare the resulting item and resource balance with the before state; do not infer hidden changes.
- If the game state differs from a thread or guide, trust the current observed state and preserve the discrepancy.
Claims this page does not make
The reviewed official notes do not define a universal maximum or minimum intangibility value, a guaranteed preservation method, or a formula connecting intangibility to the number or quality of outcomes. The community unlock threads also do not answer those questions. Accordingly, this page does not recommend a fixed threshold, a best Ducat, or an irreversible sequence as universally safe.
The defensible conclusion is simple: use the official filter to locate and compare intangible items, apply documented item restrictions, and verify uncertain interactions on a low-value item. If a specific craft still lacks official documentation or a controlled current-version test, its result remains unknown until observed.
