Dead Man’s Sulphur and Ducats in PoE 3.29

Dead Man’s Sulphur is gathered through Allflame Lantern interactions and is used by Allflame crafting; Ducats are separate crafting items with their own effects and restrictions. Do not assume a Ducat is free because its cost display says zero, and do not assume ordinary high-tier Voyages unlock every Ducat action. Both assumptions conflict with current community reports.

Verification policy

Verified August 9, 2026. The supplied official-patch URL ending in 3989441 currently resolves to an unrelated bug report, so mechanic claims use the live official 3.29.2 post ending in 3994431 instead.

What the official patch confirms

Patch 3.29.2 explicitly refers to the beam on an Allflame Lantern “when gathering Sulphur” and says the beam was sped up so the active Lantern is easier to identify. It also improves Golden Lantern visibility. Those notes confirm the collection interaction, but they do not publish a fixed Sulphur yield, a best farming route, or a cost table for every Ducat.

The same patch gives two narrow Ducat facts. Ukatoa’s Ducat does not function on Amulets that already have an Eldritch implicit, and the description was updated to say so. The patch also fixed Elevated attribute modifiers so they could be rerolled with Genteel’s Ducat, while a later line says attribute affixes on large and medium Cluster Jewels were fixed and small Cluster Jewels would be addressed later. These restrictions should be checked before committing a valuable base.

Why the displayed Sulphur cost needs checking

A community report says a stack of Changeling’s Ducats consumed nearly two stacks of Dead Man’s Sulphur even though the interface showed a zero cost. Two commenters said their own tests indicated a cost of 1,000, but the thread does not establish whether that number applies per Ducat, per stack, after later patches, or to other Ducat types. It is a warning signal, not an official universal price.

Use an inventory-delta check instead of trusting a copied number: note the Sulphur total, apply one Ducat to a low-value eligible item, and note the new total. That procedure is risk control, not a claim that the result is deterministic. If the current interface displays a nonzero price or the official notes change, prefer the current game state over the older community observation.

Unlock evidence is separate from cost evidence

The supplied Ducat unlock discussion does not identify a reliable requirement. Its author had completed a couple of item-level-83 Voyages and still could not use the desired crafting option. Replies include players who received unlocks without knowing why. That evidence cannot support a fixed level, Voyage count, or Sulphur threshold.

A different unlock thread contains one concrete community suggestion: run a special-area Chart and kill the boss. Test that route for the exact locked action, but keep the conclusion narrow. A boss completion that opens one option does not prove that it opens all Ducats, and obtaining a Ducat does not by itself prove that its crafting use is unlocked.

A conservative Sulphur and Ducat checklist

No source reviewed here proves one best Ducat, one universal Sulphur price, or one unlock route for every craft. The safe answer is to use official restrictions where available, label player-reported behavior, and measure the current interface and inventory before risking a valuable item.

  • Record the current Sulphur total and the exact Ducat name before crafting.
  • Read the current item tooltip and confirm the target base is eligible.
  • For Ukatoa’s Ducat, reject an Amulet that already has an Eldritch implicit.
  • Treat a zero display as unverified until one low-value use confirms the inventory change.
  • Keep unlock testing separate from cost testing so one observation is not mistaken for the other.
